Flea Exterminator Ontario: Home & Yard Treatment Prep and Recovery

This page explains how to prepare for and recover from professional flea treatment at your Ontario home and yard. It covers what to do before the appointment, what to expect afterward, how the Mosquito Man re-treatment and refund terms work, and when to get in touch. It was reviewed and updated in October 2026.

Mosquito Man’s flea control Home Protection program consists of two indoor treatments 14 days apart. Technicians focus on baseboards, trim, cracks, and crevices, and the service is available in Toronto, Brampton, Burlington, Hamilton, Kitchener, London, Windsor, Caledon, and surrounding Ontario communities. You can see the full scope on the flea control program page.

Before your appointment: preparation checklist

Fleas do not live only on pets. According to Health Canada’s flea guidance on Canada.ca, eggs, larvae, and pupae are present in and around the areas where pets rest, such as carpets, furniture, and bedding. Preparation gives the technician access to those areas and removes material that would otherwise shield fleas from treatment.

Pets

  • Keep pets on veterinarian-approved flea prevention. Mosquito Man recommends this alongside professional home treatment, because an untreated pet can reintroduce fleas after the home is treated.
  • Decide where pets will stay during the visit and until your technician confirms they may return.
  • Move aquariums and exposed pet food if your technician asks.

Indoors

  • Vacuum carpets, rugs, upholstered furniture, and floor edges. Seal the contents in a bag and place it in your outdoor garbage right away.
  • Wash pet bedding, throws, and any fabric pets rest on, following Health Canada’s advice to wash pet and family bedding. Use the hottest setting the fabric allows.
  • Move furniture away from walls so the technician can reach baseboards and trim.
  • Clear clutter from floors, closets, and the areas under beds.
  • Cover or put away exposed food, and wash pet bowls.

Yard and perimeter

  • Clear leaf litter and debris from patios, entry areas, and the places where pets lie outdoors.
  • Make sure gates are unlocked and the technician can reach every area to be treated.

What to tell your technician

  • The number of pets and whether they go outdoors
  • Any DIY flea products you have used recently
  • Any allergy concerns in the household
  • The rooms where you have seen the most flea activity

Leaving and re-entering the home

Follow the re-entry and label instructions provided for your appointment. Timing varies by product and application, so confirm with your technician before returning to treated rooms.

After treatment: what to expect

Timeline and what you might still see

You may still see a few adult fleas in the days after the first visit. Eggs and pupae can remain in the home, and pupae in particular can develop into adults after treatment. This is the reason for the second indoor visit 14 days later. It is not a sign that the first treatment failed.

During this window, the useful thing to do is keep cleaning and monitoring, not to apply extra products on your own.

Indoor aftercare checklist

  • Wait for treated surfaces to dry before wiping them. Mosquito Man’s article on what not to do after pest control suggests avoiding wiping treated surfaces for 2 to 4 hours, but your technician’s instructions take priority.
  • Do not mop or wipe baseboards, trim, and other treated edges unless your technician says it is fine.
  • Vacuum carpeted areas regularly, and bag and dispose of the contents outdoors each time. Vacuuming removes eggs and larvae from carpets and crevices, and sanitation is widely recommended in professional flea guidance such as UC IPM.
  • Keep washing pet bedding on a regular schedule.
  • Do not apply additional DIY products over treated areas without checking with us first.

Yard aftercare checklist

  • Watch the shaded areas where pets rest, along with patios and entry points.
  • Ask your technician when it is appropriate to resume mowing and debris removal in treated areas.
  • Keep pets on veterinarian-approved prevention while they use the yard.

Second indoor visit

Keep your appointment 14 days after the first. Prepare for it the same way: vacuum, move furniture off the walls, and wash pet bedding beforehand.

Warranty and re-treatment policy

Mosquito Man’s Super Hero Guarantee is stated on our packages page as follows:

“Not satisfied? Call us within 14 days and we’ll return to re-treat at no charge.”

“Still not happy? We’ll cheerfully refund your investment.”

Our services have no long-term contracts, and you can cancel at any time.

When to ask for a return visit

Call within 14 days if:

  • Flea activity returns between scheduled treatments
  • You still see fleas in treated rooms and have followed the preparation and aftercare steps above
  • You are unsure whether what you are seeing is normal for your stage of treatment

What to know about eligibility

Return visits apply to eligible service visits, and your technician will determine the next step based on an inspection. The guarantee wording above is the text published on our packages page. If you have questions about how it applies to a specific flea appointment, ask us before your service date.

When to contact Mosquito Man

Use the phone and email details listed on mosquitoman.ca. Phone suits time-sensitive matters such as the 14-day re-treatment window. Email works well when you want to send photos or a written record.

Get in touch if:

  • Flea activity continues after your second indoor treatment
  • You have questions about pet access to treated areas
  • You cannot complete the preparation steps and need technician guidance
  • You applied a DIY product after treatment

For reactions in a pet, contact your veterinarian. For allergic reactions in a person, contact a physician. We cannot provide medical advice.

Before you call

Have the following ready:

  • Your appointment date or dates
  • The rooms and outdoor areas treated
  • The number of pets
  • Any product you applied after the visit
  • Photos of flea activity, if available

Why licensed professionals matter

Pesticide work in Ontario is regulated through pesticide licences and permits, with licence types that include exterminator, operator, and vendor, as described on Ontario.ca. Mosquito Man uses licensed and insured technicians. For home-specific treatment options, see our Toronto flea control page.
